Salinas Gang-Unit Grant/Center 09/05/10 11pm TDH

The Salinas police department recently received a 15-hundred dollar grant from Target, Incorporated.    The money is expected to help fund the department’s Violence Suppression Unit.   The grant will help provide equipment and training, as well as fund programs to educate the public about gangs.   Meanwhile, the lease has begun on a building that will house a new anti-gang command center.   The building, located near the Salinas Municipal Airport, is being leased by the F.B.I., and will serve as a Joint Law Enforcement Operations Center.   The 5-year-lease has begun, however security issues are being addressed, before the center becomes operational.   Officials hope to move in by the end of the year.   The project is part of the partnership between federal and local law enforcement agencies, trying to address gang issues on the central coast.
