The driver of a big rig suffered fatal injuries early this morning after crashing into a guardrail on northbound highway 101 south of Gilroy. CHP says the driver, a 65-year old man from San Leandro, veered off the road near the Betabel Y Road exit in the San Juan Bautista area just after midnight while hauling 80,000 pounds of broccoli. Both northbound lanes of Highway 101 have been shut down, and traffic was being rerouted to Highway 156 East, to Highway 25 North then back to Highway 101. One lane is expected to re-open later this morning while the guardrail is being repaired.
