About 3,000 gas stations across the state are being ordered to remove the “hands free” latches on gas nozzles due to mal-function issues. The state fire marshal ordered about a third of all the stations in the state to remove the “hold-open” latches, on at least 13-gas nozzles manufactured by Vapor System Technologies after people suffered minor injuries from gasoline spills. Station owners have until October 15 to have the latches removed. The manufacturer meanwhile is working on developing a new nozzle to replace the old ones.
