A Santa Cruz native made history today by becoming the 2nd person to swim across the Monterey Bay. Marathon swimmer and ocean advocate, Bruckner Chase completed the swim after starting at Santa Cruz Main Beach at 4:20 a.m. this morning then reaching San Carlos Beach in Monterey at about 6:12 p.m. Chase said the swim is an effort to bring attention to the state of our oceans and the work being done by the National Marine Sanctuaries and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Chase said too many Jellyfish forced him to put on a wetsuit this year, and the reason behind why he was forced to stop the same swim last year.
