Bay Swimmer Quits 08/22/10 TDH

A 43-year-old Pleasanton woman was forced to abandon her attempt to swim across the Monterey Bay over the weekend, after being stung by multiple jellyfish.  Patti Bauernfeind had been swimming for about 4-and-a-half hours, and was near the midway-point, when she made the decision to stop.    The San Francisco Bay-area tutor hoped to use the occasion to raise 50-thousand dollars to build a school in Afghanistan.   Another swimmer, Bruckner Chase, is set to attempt the 23-mile swim tomorrow(Tues).   Chase was also forced to abandon an attempt due to jelly fish last year.
