Citations were issued Tuesday to 3 adults after a young mother and her 3-year old were rescued after falling into a surge hole at Point Lobos state Natural Reserve. Officials say the 2 slipped around the 15-foot surge hole in the rocks then fell into the water. A State Parks lifeguard and anEngineer with Carmel Highlands, climbed into the hole to assist the 2, while Cal Fire crews and Cypress fire protection districts set up a rope rescue system. Both victims received minor scrapes and bruises, meanwhile the mother, her brother and a girlfriend were cited for veering off the hiking trail.
