Lights at S.C. Protest 08/18/10 7:30pm TDH

Santa Cruz police officers have set up large floodlights outside city hall, to illuminate the on-going camping protest taking place there.   Protestors have been sleeping on the lawn of city hall for about a week, as part of a protest that began on July 4th at the county building on Ocean Street.  The floodlights were brought in Tuesday night, at a cost of about 1-hundred dollars a day.  Several arrests and citations have been made at what has been called “Peace Camp 2010,” including the arrest of a convicted child molester on Tuesday who had failed to check in with authorities.   Participants are calling on Santa Cruz leaders to end the city’s ban on sleeping outside between 11 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.
