San Benito County Supervisors have given tentative approval to a 37-million dollar budget, which would see 12 county workers laid off. The layoffs are part of an effort to close a 9-million dollar budget deficit. The preliminary budget spares the County’s only library, in Hollister, which had been threatened with cuts or even closure. However, the library remains on the endangered list, as Supervisors also agreed last Friday to form a Special Budget Committee to explore further cuts.
