Cement maker gets Federal grant 7/23/10 TDH

The Los Gatos –based cement manufacturer Calera has been awarded nearly 20-million dollars in federal stimulus funds.  The 19.9-million dollar award is designed to help the company expand its experimental cement-making process.   The process involves capturing the carbon dioxide emissions from the moss landing power plant, and using seawater to help convert the gas into solid mineral structures, which can then be used to make cement.   The company employs the technology on a small scale, and is seeking to expand its operations.
