A new recommendation was released this week by state health officials regarding vaccinations against whooping cough. The California Department of Public Health warns that the epidemic continues to grow, and as of last week, the current rate of increase is 5 times higher now over the same period last year. So far, 5 Californians have died of whooping cough this year. State officials say those targeted for vaccinations are mostly seniors and women in child-bearing years.
