SALINAS P.D. COMMUNITY REPORT 07-06-10 19:40 a.v.

A new report released this week outlines changes in service, along with the direction the Salinas Police Department is headed towards. The “Report to the Community” covers changes within police services, crime statistics for 2009, annual arrests and calls for service spanning 10 years. It also updates 2 major operations the department headed in the past year, “Operation Knockout and Ceasefire”. With all the recent cuts the department has seen this year, Salinas Police Chief Louis Fetherolf says it’s more important than ever for city residents to continue to be the eyes and ears of the department. On June 15th, Fetherolf announced that his department was cut to 158 sworn-in officers due to city budget cuts. While no staff was laid off, 15 vacant positions were frozen and several civilian staff lost their jobs.
