A raging 5-alarm blaze is currently in progress at an elementary school in West San Jose. Dozens of firefighters are on scene at Merrit Trace Elementary School located on 651 Dana Ave, East of 880. Firefighters arrived on scene this morning at 4:15 a.m. and found the structure fully engulfed in flames. Firecrews, who have reason to believe this is a case of arson, report that the main building is 80% destroyed, and are currently working on saving the school’s portable units. The school, which is known as a k through 5th grade school focusing on drama, art and music, just wrapped up it’s summer school program a few weeks ago, and school officials say a new building will now have to be built prior to school starting up again in August.
