NEW FARMWORKER BILL 07-02-10 06:55 a.v.

Under a new bill headed for the governor’s desk, farmers would be required to pay employees over-time after working an 8-hour work-day.    Senate Bill 11-21, would change current state law so that farm workers are no longer exempt from the overtime laws, which cover most other hourly workers.  Currently, farm workers can earn overtime only when they work over 10-hours in a day.   The new ruling, which was sent tot the Goevernor yesterday, is expected to end a nearly 70-year exemption for the state’s largest industry.
