A DIE-HARD LOCAL SURFER, WHO IS ALSO THE OWNER OF A LOCAL SURF SHOP, IS TURNING IT INTO THE COUNTY’S FIRST-EVER NON-PROFIT ACTION SPORTS STORE. DANNY KEITH, THE FOUNDER OF GRIND OUT HUNGER, EXPECTS TO RE-OPEN HIS 41st AVENUE SURF SHOP IN 2 WEEKS. SOME OF THE CHANGES WILL BE A NEW SKATE RAMP, VA STAGE FOR MUSICAL PERFORMANCES AND A MEDIA CENTER (WITH COMPUTERS). ALONG WITH COLLECTING FOOD DONATIONS AND WORKING WITH SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, KEITH ENCOURAGES TEENAGERS TO VOLUNTEER FOR NON-PROFIT GROUPS AND HELP THEIR COMMUNITY.
SO FAR KEITH AND THE TEENS HAVE GATHERED ENOUGH FOOD AND DONATIONS TO PROVIDE MORE THAN 1 MILLION MEALS FOR CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY.
