The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute said Tuesday that they are building a new research vessel to be named the R /V David Packard, in honor of MBARI’s founder.
R/V David Packard will replace the research center’s current flagship when it begins sailing out of Moss Landing in 2023.
The new vessel will be 164-feet long, will support a crew of 12 and a science crew of 18.
