A SEA OTTER PUP, THAT IS BEING CARED FOR AT THE MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM, IS NOW DOING WELL ENOUGH TO BE ON EXHIBIT….ALONG WITH HIS MENTOR OTTER, GIDGET. THE NEW OTTER IS THE 649TH STRANDED SEA OTTER TO BE BROUGHT TO THE AQUARIUM’S SEA OTTER RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION PROGRAM SINCE 1984. PUP #649 WAS FOUND STRANDED ON A SANTA BARBARA COUNTY BEACH WHEN HE WAS JUST 3 WEEKS OLD, AND AT THE TIME HE WEIGHED JUST 7 POUNDS. AT 10 WEEKS-OLD HE NOW WEIGHS 16 POUNDS, HAS UNIFORMLY DARK BROWN VELVET-LIKE FUR, AND ALTHOUGH HE IS SMALL HE IS CONSIDERED QUITE HEALTHY.
