The salinas city council has voted to create a new gang-enforcement program. Dubbed “The Community Safety division,” the team will focus entirely on gang-violence-prevention. Salinas’ senior deputy city attorney georgina Mendoza will lead the new division, and report directly to acting city manager jim pia. The vote was 5 to 1 in favor of creating the new division, with 1 city councilman absent.
