Customers of New Leaf Community Markets have voted-in the next non-profit beneficiaries of the stores’ Envirotoken program. Every time a New Leaf customer reuses a grocery bag, they receive a token worth ten cents that they can direct toward nonprofit groups selected by that stores; customers.
Beneficiaries for the next six months include: Downtown Streets Team, Friends of the Santa Cruz State Parks, Heading Home Animal Rescue, Homeless Garden Project, Life Lab, Native Animal Rescue, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation, Santa Cruz SPCA, Save Our Shores, Seymour Marine Discovery Center, Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center and The Bike Church.
Since the program was launched in 1993, New Leaf has donated nearly $841,000 and more than 8 million bags have been reused. For information, visit newleaf.com/community.
