Divorces often disrupt families and pets can be a part of that. A new California law, signed last week, requires that in awarding custody of animals in divorcees that judges now take into consideration the care of the pet.
AB 2274 means judges will consider who walks, feeds, grooms, and cares for the pet. That caregiver will be more likely to get custody. While pets are still considered property, they will get more consideration under this new California law.
