Despite Coronavirus guidelines prohibiting the use of personal cups and refills of single-use drinkware, the previously delayed implementation of a 25-cent disposable cup fee for Santa Cruz County is in effect since the first of this month.
Meanwhile, those ordering delivery through the mobile app DoorDash have noticed a recently implemented “Santa Cruz Fee”.
That fee, ranging from $1 to $3, was the result of a mandate passed for City of Santa Cruz residents that prohibits the app from charging more than 15% commission per DoorDash delivery order.
Mobile apps that offer food delivery services such as DoorDash are known to charge up to 30% commission on orders placed through their apps, and cities such as Denver and Chicago are known to have implemented similar policies on capping commissions.
