The Alisal Union School District is introducing a new approach to full-English instruction after recent bilingual education rules were opposed this fall. A new program was designed after parents and school staff protested a new early-exit program at the start of this school year. That plan restricted teachers to English only starting in 2nd grade, previously, Spanish was spoken at least part-time until the end of 3rd grade. Administrators outlined a more gradual approach this week to learning English, and passed out waivers to parents who want their children enrolled in the new program.
