NEW GUIDELINES HAVE BEEN RELEASED REGARDING CHILD CAR SEATS. THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS URGE PARENTS TO KEEP INFANTS IN REAR-FACING CAR SEATS UNTIL AGE 2. THE PREVIOUS GUIDELINES, RELEASED IN 2002, RECOMMEND REAR-FACING CAR SEATS FOR INFANTS UNTIL THE MAXIMUM WEIGHT OF THE SEAT, OR 1 YEAR OLD AND A WEIGHT OF 20 POUNDS. CAR ACCIDENTS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR CHILDREN OVER 4.
