In the wake of the recent dive boat fire, the Coast Guard has issued new safety recommendations. They suggest limiting the un-supervised charging of lithium-ion batteries, as well as the un-supervised use of power strips and extension cords on boats. Although the cause of the fire that killed 34 people aboard the “Conception” has not yet been determined, the Coast Guard also recommends that owners and operators of vessels review their emergency plans and duties with the crew, and check all firefighting and lifesaving equipment on-board.
