An errant mylar balloon took the power out for nearly 6,000 Santa Cruz customers Wednesday afternoon in the Beach Flats and downtown area.
The outage began at 12:11 p.m. and shut off power to 5,950 customers. The cause was determined to be the loose metallic ball oon hitting a power line at Third and Kaye streets.
Power was fully restored shortly after 1 p.m. once power transformer repairs were completed.
