Monterey mushrooms of Watsonville is sprouting seeds of education with its scholarship program.
The local mushroom grower doled out 239-thousand dollars in scholarships for this academic year to children of its employees. 99-students will be college bound thanks to the generosity of the mushroom grower and they can receive up to 3-thousand dollars for four years.
22-thousand dollars went towards funding an education for students in Mexico. The scholarship program began in 1992 and has granted a total of 3-million dollars.
