In an unusual turn of events, the prime suspect in a double homicide and alleged kidnapping was released from Monterey County jail Thursday night. 19-year-old Juan Manuel Salazar Jr. was arrested at the U.S. – Mexico border with his 16-year-old girlfriend Eunice Serrato last week, a week after an Amber Alert was issued for the girl. Both were wanted after the bodies of two men were found shot to death in the San Ardo home of Serrato’s parents. As of Friday, Juan Salazar Jr. had not been charged with the two counts of homicide and one count of kidnapping that he had originally been arrested for. No comment has been made as to whether Salazar Jr. is still considered a suspect in the murders.
