a drive has been launched to get a referendum on the ballot to ban construction of a proposed bus repair facility on the former fort ord. a newly formed coalition called the fort ord recreational users has set out to collect signatures to put the measure on the ballot. the 57-acre project would include a bus MAINTENANCE building for monterey-salinas transit as well as a 36-thousand square foot administration building. the development plan calls for the uprooting of 34-hundred mature coast live oak trees and the planting of 34-hundred saplings as mitigation. the group hopes to have a referendum on the june 2012 ballot .
