The Monterey Police and Fire Departments were evacuated after someone brought a military device into the Police Department’s lobby around 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. After everyone else was evacuated, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad examined the device and determined it wasn’t live. People were allowed to return to the building by 4 p.m. a spokesperson for the Monterey Police Departnent recommends leaving suspected ordnance where it is found, and calling the police department as soon as a military device is found.
