The California mountain lion may get another layer of protection from the state.
The California fish and game commission voted yesterday five to zero to consider the large cats under the state’s endangered species act.
The unanimous vote by the commission sets in motion the review by the department of fish and game to determine if the mountain lions should be formally protected under the endangered species act.
Some mountain lion populations have low survival rates because of car strikes, poisonings and sanctioned kills.
