Due to the recent Drought Proclamation issued by California Governor Jerry Brown, Cal Fire is increasing the number of firefighters for the tri-county area. Starting tomorrow Santa Cruz will be able to hire 12 additional firefighters. The department currently has five engines, the proclamation allows them to have one more. The Monterey and San Benito division will be getting six more engines, they normally have two during the wintertime. Meanwhile, Cal Fire reminds anyone with fireplaces to dispose of ashes properly since ashes can still start a fire.
