Monterey Taxi drivers are feeling the affect of the ride app Uber. Drivers say that dispatched numbers of calls for taxi service has dropped since the instruction of the app in the Monterey area. However most longtime taxi operators regular clients have remained stable. Another plus for the taxi drivers is that although Uber drivers are allowed to drop off riders at the Monterey Airport they are not allowed to pick up fares at the airport. Most taxi drivers aren’t against the Uber competition just that Uber is unregulated and aren’t licensed through the Monterey County Taxi Commission at the cost of 3-hundred dollars a year. There are about 160-thousand Uber drivers nationwide.
