When they meet tomorrow, The Monterey City Council is expected to consider a hotel tax plan that would go towards funding renovations to the Monterey Conference Center. Under the proposed rate plan, Monterey hotels next to the Conference Center would pay a rate of 4.15% of room revenue while full service hotels would pay 1.6%, and limited hotels would pay 0.8%. Proponents say a major remodel of the Conference Center is in need to keep up with convention industry demands. If the plan passes, it will go to a special property owners election in February.
