The Chief of the Monterey Police Department has recently announced his retirement. Police Chief Phil Penko began working as an officer 31 years ago, and has served in his current position since January 2012. Assistant Chief Dave Hober is expected to hold the position until the city manager appoints a new police chief. Penko plans to retire on May 1st.
