The City of Monterey urges the public to use the Coastal Recreation Trail for essential travel only, namely to and from work.
Officials with the city observed noncompliance with social distancing with numerous pedestrians and cycles crowding the trail. These instances were especially common on weekends and fair weather days.
Signs were posted on Friday to request that commuters only use the recreation trail.
Meanwhile, recreation hotspots throughout the state have taken action to close their trails, such as many of those within the Angeles National Forest.
