THE MONTEREY COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION WILL RELEASE THE RESULTS OF AN INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGATIONS OF TRANSCRIPT TAMPERING TOMORROW. (TUES). THE ALLEGATIONS STEM FROM A REPORT THAT IN NOVEMBER 2013, 93 MONTEREY PENINSULA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS HAD THEIR COURSE NAME ALTERED WHEN THEY RECEIVED A GRADE OF “D” OR LOWER IN THEIR ALGEBRA 1 CLASSES. THE COURSE WAS CHANGED TO ALGEBRA READINESS, WHICH IS AN ELECTIVE, AND WAS NOT BEING OFFERED IN THE DISTRICT AT THE TIME. THE CHANGE MEANT THE STUDENTS WOULD STILL RECEIVE EARNED CREDITS. OTHERWISE, THE STUDENTS WOULD NOT RECEIVE CREDITS AND WOULD HAVE TO RETAKE THE CLASS TO GRADUATE. THE INITIAL INVESTIGATION SHOWED THE CHANGE WAS DONE INTERNALLY. THE REPORT WILL BE RELEASED AT THE DISTRICT’S REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING.
