The City of Monterey isn’t able to boost it’s revenue or continue to maintain it’s infrastructure unless it moves forward with a sales tax increase. That was the message the city’s mayor Chuck Della Salla presented during his annual “State of the City” address today. The Mayor told nearly 100 people who gathered at the Monterey Conference Center, that the city has the lowest sales tax rate of any community in the county. He also said that without a new revenue stream, the city faces a 2.5 million dollar deficit in the next two years.
