a monterey hotel was evacuated this morning after an air hazard was detected at the facility. a chlorine-type gas flowed through the ventilation system of the portola plaza hotel this morning after housekeeping staff mixed chemicals and accidently created the toxic hazard. 5 people were transported to an area hospital to be evaluated for possible complications. the hotel is expected to be shut down for at least 2 hours.
