Two separate tree lighting ceremonies are set to take place this week in Monterey County. Carmel and Monterey will both light their holiday trees Friday. Carmel’s event starts at 3:30 p.m. in Devendorf Park with the arrival of Santa Claus. Carmel Mayor Jason Burnett will light the tree at about 5:45 p.m., followed by an open house at Carmel Plaza at 7 p.m. Monterey’s celebration takes place in front of Colton Hall and begins at 5 p.m. and goes until 6 p.m. The event includes carols, cookies and cider.
