Monterey County July Trials Will Be Different 05-28-20 03:50 DC

When jury trials resume in Monterey County next week there will be significant differences thanks to COVID-19 precautions.

For example, potential jurors will undergo a health screening and temperature reading before entering the jury room. Once inside, they will be seated six feet apart to observe social distancing in a room that prior to COVID was often filled to capacity.

Plexiglass barriers are being installed in the courtroom to prevent COVID from spreading and seating will be strictly limited as a social distancing precaution.

Monterey court officials say they want jurors to be comfortable in the courthouse without serious COVID concerns. Deferrals will be available to people concerned about catching COVID during jury service.
