So far, Monterey County is seeing an increase in reported flu cases. County health officials cite a 43% increase in patients with flu symptoms since Thanksgiving Day. However, no deaths have been reported. The most common strain of the flu, is the H1N1 strain, which was connected with three deaths in the state since the beginning of the flu season on October 1st. The most common symptom being reported is upper respiratory illness. Officials recommend people get vaccinated after experiencing first signs of the flu.
