Monterey County residents rejected Opposing Fort Ord Land use Measures M and K yesterday. 47% voted Yes for Measure M while 52% voted against it. 38% voted for Measure K while 62% voted against it. Measure M would have permanently blocked development of about 540 acres of the former Fort Ord, while Measure K would have approved development for the Monterey Downs horse racing track. The open space now remains in the hands of elected officials. In the Alisal Unified School District Trustee Area 2 Maricel Cruz won with 63% of the vote, Alisal Trustee Area 3, Noemi Armenta won Jose Castaneda’s former seat with 550 votes at 71% and Alisal Trustee Area 5 Guadalupe Guzman won with 66% of the vote. Monterey County Board of Education Trustee Area 7 David Serena had 964 votes and Sergio Alejo garnered 962 votes, both had 50-percent of the vote, a recount is expected.
