(17:54) MONTEREY- The identity of the victim of a fatal shooting in Monterey has been released. At about 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday police responded to a report of a shooting victim on the 600 block of Wave Street. Arriving officers found 28 year old Raul Melendez suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a Salinas trauma center. Investigators believe Melendez was intentionally targeted. It was the first homicide in the area since 1991.
