Salinas and Monterey county officials say they need to continue to move quickly on replacing the current homeless shelter on East Laurel Drive in Salinas. That’s because they plan to use 10.5 million dollars (of the 12-and-a-half million dollars they expect to get later this month) on that project. The money comes from the Homeless Emergency Aid Program, and because city and county officials could lose the state funds if they don’t use them by a pre-set date, they hope to have the 10-thousand-square-foot center complete by April of 2020.
