Once again, the number of Western Monarch Butterflies, has declined….especially in the pacific grove area…..in fact, this is the first season that no monarchs over-wintered in the Pacific Grove Butter fly Sanctuary (during their migration). For a number of years now the population of western monarch butterflies has been declining due to a loss of habitat, climate change, pesticides, and pother factors. A few clusters were spotted at Natural Bridges State Park….and also in the Pismo Beach area…..but still in much lower number s.
Scientists say that spring is a perfect time to try and assist the butterflies by planting nectar plants…..and for people within 10 miles of the coast, planting native Milkweed, can also help.
