the second-in-command has been named at the monterey county sheriff’s department. the board of supervisors has approved the salary of recently hired undersheriff max houser. originally from salinas, houser has served with salinas police department, the bureau of narcotic enforcement, and fresno county sheriff’s department. as undersheriff, houser will be responsible for all operations and supervising chief deputies and commanders.
