The Monterey County Sheriff has addressed a Grand Jury report that criticized law enforcement for not properly processing rape kits for sexual assault victims. Sheriff Steve Bernal called the report misleading. Following nationwide reports of the mishandling of rape kits the jury sought to examine the county’s protocol. The report says that law enforcement couldn’t provide clear and consistent information to determine if there is a back log.
