Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies acting on an anonymous tip raided a cockfight near Soledad on Saturday. Authorities say that a CHP helicopter was used to determine the illegal event was underway at a Metz Road property. Deputies and officers from several agencies, including the SPCA then closed down the cockfight. Officers detained and identified 42 suspects, and took reports for review by the District Attorney’s office. The property owner, 59-year-old Gonzalo Manriquez was cited for holding an illegal event. 45 roosters had to be euthanized due to fight injuries.
