A probation compliance check resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old Watsonville man for methamphetamine possession Saturday night. Santa Cruz County gang task force officers were conducting a search of Nahum Chavez’ Marchant Street home, where they found him hiding under a bed. 20-year-old Hilda Valencia attempted to prevent officers from removing Chavez from underneath the bed, while holding her 1-year-old child. Officers discovered 30 grams of methamphetamine and stolen property at the residence. Chavez was arrested on possession of methamphetamine for sale and other charges. Valencia arrested on a similar charge, plus suspicion of child endangerment and interfering with an arrest.
