A NEW BILL WAS SIGNED INTO LAW TODAY, THAT WOULD REQUIRE METAL RECYCLERS AND PAWN BROKERS TO MOVE ALL THEIR RECORDS FROM PAPER TO THE COMPUTER IN AN INTERNAL DATABASE. LEGISLATORS AND OTHERS HOPE THIS WILL CUT DOWN ON THE THEFT OF METAL….SUCH AS CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, AND ALL KINDS OF AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT.
THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE WILL OPERATE THE NEW DATABASE, WHILE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WILL BE IN CHARGE OF HOLDING THE BUSINESSES ACCOUNTABLE…BY CHECKING WHAT THE BUSINESS RECEIVES, WITH REPORTS OF WHAT HAS BEEN STOLEN IN THE AREA.
