A memorial service is set to be held today(thurs), for 5-victims of a fire that broke out last Saturday at a residential care facility. The service is scheduled to be held at 7 p.m., at epiphany Lutheran and Episcopal church in marina. The church is located at 425 carmel avenue. the service is non-denominational. The victims, whose ages ranged from 21 to 26, were all disabled, and were trapped in the burning residence on seaside court. Marina police report that an initial investigation revealed that 2-caregivers who escaped the building did attempt to save the residents. They were reportedly overcome by smoke, and had to be restrained by witnesses from re-entering the building. Smoke also prevented first responders from getting to the victims, before the roof collapsed. the 2-caregivers and 1-surviving resident were taken to bay area hospitals.
